College Street Music Hall: A Guide
Follow live music in Connecticut, and you will end up at College Street Music Hall. It opened in a restored old theater in downtown New Haven in 2015. Now it is the state's top mid-size room. Big acts play here when they outgrow the clubs. You still stand close to the stage.
What shows play there
The booking is broad. You will see indie and alt-rock headliners, hip-hop, and jam bands. You will also see electronic acts, comedy, and classic rock and Americana names. These acts can fill a couple thousand seats. See a band here now. A year or two later, they may be playing theaters and arenas.
The layout inside
Most shows are general admission on the main floor. The balcony above is seated for some shows and standing for others. High ceilings and clear sightlines make even a packed floor feel open. Things to know:
- General admission means first come, first served. Want the rail or a clear view? Arrive when doors open.
- Pick the balcony for a calmer night. You get a good view with no crush.

The hall sits in downtown New Haven. It is a few minutes' walk from the New Haven Green and Yale. Coming from out of town? Take the train to Union Station, a short ride or walk away. That way you skip downtown parking. Drivers will find public garages within a few blocks.
Make a night of it
