Outdoor & Summer Concerts in Connecticut

Updated June 2026 · 7 min read

The short version

Summer is Connecticut's best season for live music. The Xfinity Theatre in Hartford (~25,000) hosts the biggest tours; the Westville Music Bowl in New Haven and the harbor-side Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport bring the scenery; and free series like the Levitt Pavilion in Westport keep it accessible all season. Here's where to be.

When the weather turns, Connecticut's music moves outside — and some of the year's best shows happen under the open sky. From a 25,000-capacity amphitheater to a free lawn series by the water, here's the full map of outdoor and summer concerts in the state.

Xfinity Theatre, Hartford: the big amphitheater

The Xfinity Theatre (long known as the Meadows) is Connecticut's largest outdoor venue, holding roughly 25,000 between the covered pavilion and the lawn. It's the summer home of the state's biggest touring acts — the marquee pop, rock, country, and hip-hop tours that need an amphitheater. Lawn tickets are the classic move: bring a blanket, get there early, and make a night of it.

Best for: the biggest summer tours, lawn-seat nights.

Westville Music Bowl, New Haven

The Westville Music Bowl reimagined a historic New Haven bowl into a flexible outdoor venue that scales from a few thousand up to around 10,000. Programmed with a strong indie, jam, and Americana lean, it's become one of the most exciting outdoor rooms in the state — big enough for real headliners, intimate enough to feel special.

Best for: indie, jam, and Americana headliners outdoors.

Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater, Bridgeport: on the harbor

For scenery, it's hard to beat the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater — a roughly 5,700-capacity outdoor venue right on Bridgeport harbor. The waterfront setting and mid-size scale make for one of the most pleasant summer-concert experiences in the state, with sightlines that stay good across the whole room.

Best for: a scenic, mid-size summer show by the water.

Free & lakeside: Levitt Pavilion and beyond

Some of summer's best nights cost nothing. The Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Westport runs a long free series of concerts through the season, by the Saugatuck River — a community institution. Inland, the Quassy Amphitheater in Middlebury offers lakeside shows at an old-school amusement park, and town greens across the state host free summer concert nights. And don't forget the free Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun, which runs year-round if the weather turns.

Best for: free, family-friendly, low-key summer evenings.
