Wallingford Concert Venues: The Oakdale Theatre
Wallingford is home to the Toyota Oakdale Theatre — at about 4,800 seats, one of the largest indoor concert halls in Connecticut. It started life in 1954 as a tent with theatre-in-the-round seating and grew into a major touring stop, centrally located off I-91 between New Haven and Hartford.
Some venues are destinations because of their history; the Oakdale is a destination because of its scale and its story. Few rooms in Connecticut can hold a crowd this size indoors — and fewer still got there by starting as a tent in a field.
The Toyota Oakdale Theatre (~4,800)
The Toyota Oakdale Theatre opened in 1954 as the Oakdale Musical Theatre, founded by Ben Segal — originally a large tent with theatre-in-the-round seating for about 1,400. A wooden dome added in 1972 pushed capacity to 3,200, and a major 1996 renovation abandoned the in-the-round layout for traditional staging, reopening that July with a Brooks & Dunn concert. Today the main hall seats roughly 4,800, making it one of the biggest indoor concert venues in the state and a regular stop for major touring artists, comedians, and family shows.
Best for: big touring concerts and comedy at near-arena scale.

Alongside the main auditorium, the venue operates The Dome at Oakdale — an adjacent space that can hold up to about 1,800 standing. It gives the Oakdale a smaller, general-admission room for shows that suit a club-style setup, so the complex can program at two very different scales.
Best for: standing-room, club-style concerts.
