Toyota Oakdale Theatre, Wallingford: A Complete Guide
The Toyota Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford is central Connecticut's big indoor concert house — the room where a national act lands when they're bigger than a club but not playing an arena. Sitting just off I-91 between New Haven and Hartford, it's one of the most-trafficked stops on the state's touring circuit, and it's been booking shows under one name or another since the 1950s.
Two rooms under one roof
The Oakdale is really two venues in one building, which trips up a lot of first-timers:
- The main theatre seats around 4,800 in a reserved, theater-style layout — every ticket is an assigned seat, and the room is large enough for major touring productions.
- The Dome is the smaller, roughly 1,600-capacity room used for general-admission, club-style shows. Same address, very different night — so always check which room your show is in before you plan where to stand.
The venue is operated by Live Nation, which is why its calendar and tickets run through Ticketmaster.
A little history
The Oakdale opened in 1954 as an open-air, tent-covered theater-in-the-round — a central stage with seating all the way around. A permanent dome later replaced the tent, and a major mid-1990s renovation enclosed and rebuilt the venue into the fixed, theater-style room it is today (the in-the-round configuration is long gone). It's carried a string of naming sponsors over the decades — Oakdale Musical Theatre, the Chevrolet Theatre, and since 2009 the Toyota Oakdale Theatre — but locals have called it "the Oakdale" the whole way through.

The booking is broad and steady: rock, pop, country, Latin, and metal headliners, big-name stand-up comedy, tribute acts, "film-in-concert" nights where a live orchestra scores a movie, and family shows. Because the building can flex between the 4,800-seat theatre and the smaller Dome, you'll see everything from arena-adjacent legacy acts to rising touring bands in the same month.
Getting there & parking
The Oakdale is at 95 South Turnpike Road in Wallingford, a quick hop off I-91 — which is a big part of why it draws from both the New Haven and Hartford metros. Parking is on-site, with paid premium and front-row upgrade options; for Dome shows in particular, plan on paid parking and bring a card. Lots typically open a few hours before the show, so arriving early is the easy way to avoid the post-show exit crush.
