The Best Amphitheaters in Connecticut
Connecticut's outdoor season runs on a handful of great rooms: the giant Meadows Music Theatre (~30,000), the scalable Westville Music Bowl, the scenic harbor-side Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater, and the wooded Ives Concert Park — plus the free Levitt Pavilion. Here's each one's strength.
Summer is when Connecticut's music moves outside, and a few standout amphitheaters carry the season. Here are the best, from the biggest shed to the prettiest free lawn.
The Meadows Music Theatre, Hartford (~30,000)
The biggest by far. The Meadows Music Theatre (long the Xfinity Theatre) holds up to about 30,000 between a covered pavilion and a huge lawn, and it's the state's home for the marquee summer tours. Lawn tickets are the classic move.
Best for: the biggest touring acts of the summer.
The Westville Music Bowl, New Haven (3,500–9,700)
Reborn from an old tennis stadium in 2021, the Westville Music Bowl scales from about 3,500 to 9,700 and books a sharp indie, jam, and Americana lineup (now via The Bowery Presents). Big enough for headliners, intimate enough to feel special.
Best for: indie, jam, and Americana headliners outdoors.

The most scenic of the bunch. The Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater sits right on Bridgeport harbor — a partially covered, ~5,700-capacity room with a waterfront view and easy train access. Mid-size and comfortable.
Best for: a scenic, mid-size summer night by the water.
Ives Concert Park, Danbury (~5,500)
The prettiest setting. Ives Concert Park is an open-air amphitheater on 40 wooded acres beside a pond on Western Connecticut State University's campus, named for composer Charles Ives. It holds about 5,500 and spans concerts, an orchestra series, and festivals.
Best for: outdoor concerts in a wooded, family-friendly park.
Best free: the Levitt Pavilion, Westport
For free outdoor music, nothing beats the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Westport — a long free summer series by the Saugatuck River. Pair it with town-green concerts statewide (see our free concerts guide) for a no-cost summer of music.
Best for: free, picnic-friendly summer evenings.
